Why Give to MAC

There has been significant progress in securing the safety and security of civilian populations worldwide. When MAC was created in 1994, there were an estimated 20,000-26,000 new landmine victims each year.  In 2007, there were less than 6,000 recorded new victims.

The quality and availability of assistance for survivors continued to be insufficient in 2007, and access to community-based rehabilitation, mental health and economic reintegration programs was limited.  International support for mine action totaled US$431 million in 2007, a $33 million decline from 2006 but the second highest level of annual funding recorded by Landmine Monitor.  Of the 20 largest mine action donors, nine provided more funding in 2007 than 2006, while 11 provided less. Canada was the third largest donor (C$49,195,671).

In 1997 the Canadian government created the CAN $100 million Canadian Landmine Fund (CLF) to support implementation of the Ottawa Treaty. It was renewed for five years (till 2008), but currently the Canadian government has not planned to renew it again.

Note: Due to Mines Action Canada's high level of advocacy, we are not eligible for charitable registration status within Canada and cannot provide tax receipts.
