Beyond the Nairobi Summit on a Mine-Free World:

Summary Invitation to a Dialogue on Removing Explosive Threats to Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development
Details Mines Action Canada (MAC) would like to invite interested NGOs to an NGO-Government dialogue on Canada's plans for post-conflict development in countries affected by landmines and other explosive remnants of war (ERW). This dialogue is an important opportunity for exchanging information with a broad cross-section of organizations working directly in mine action as well as post-conflict reconstruction and development in countries affected by mines and ERW.

The objectives of the dialogue are to:

- Inform and consult the NGO community on Canada's plans to mainstream mine action funding into development programs with discussion on the implications/opportunities this will generate;
- Inform and consult the NGO community on Canada's plans for the Nairobi Summit on a Mine-Free World including discussing the implications of post-Nairobi Canadian foreign policy on the implementation of the Ottawa Convention banning landmines;
- Address the strong linkages between the landmine/ERW problem in affected countries and post-conflict rebuildlng/development with a discussion on how to more effectively leverage these relationships

The dialogue will be structured interactively to allow for presentations, small group discussions, and a plenary for dialogue. Presenters include:

- Ross Hynes, Canada's Ambassador for Mine Action, Foreign Affairs Canada
- Jean Devlin, Chief, Mine Action Unit, Canadian International Development Agency
- Paul Hannon, Executive Director, Mines Action Canada
