Youth to Youth Action Network

This Network is responsible for facilitating global youth action on cluster bombs and landmines between Youth Leader Forums (YLFs) and expanding the support and reach of youth involvement in the movement.

Youth Leaders and their partner organizations have access to ongoing mentorship, training opportunities and support in the implementation of Vientiane Action Plan, which was created during the November 2010 Vientiane Youth Leaders’ Forum (YLF). The Vientiane Youth Action Plan builds on the original two-year Cartagena Youth Action Plan created at the Cartagena Summit. The Plan contains specific youth actions in support of the goals of the Convention of Cluster Munitions and the Ottawa Convention banning landmines. In Vientiane, youth and experts alike carefully reviewed the Cartagena plan in order to identify twelve achievable actions . These actions now form the basis of the Vientiane Youth Action Plan. Some examples of actions taken so far include:

  • The launch of an annual Take the Next Step! global youth campaign focused on providing youth leaders and our campaign partners with information, monthly action ideas and online resources.
  • The campaign theme from September 2011 – April 2012 is Take the Next Step for Survivors!. During this time, the Youth will promote increased understanding about the needs and rights of cluster munition and landmine survivors. Continue to visit our website for updates and more information about this exciting campaign!.
  • A forum for online networking with other youth leaders and organizations in the movement working with youth.
  • Virtual training and mentorship opportunities in the areas of project management, advocacy, public engagement and issue-specific content.
  • In Our Lifetime Legacy, a global youth fundraising campaign for Youth Leaders and partners to fundraise and contribute towards a mine action project based on the annual theme.  For example, in 2010, Youth Leaders fundraised to train and house a demining dog for a cluster-bomb affected country. In 2011, they are raising funds to support a victim assistance program. This has been a way for youth campaigners to make concrete contributions to mine action while modeling the type of international cooperation that needs to exist across civil society and between governments.
