Location: Siem Reap, Cambodia

Mine Action Program Support Officer, Jesuit Refugee Service of Cambodia (JRS-CAM) (2 positions)

Two positions are offered with this partner. Working under the supervision of the National Director, the YPs will work to support JRS-CAM's mine action program which primarily conducts research and organizes local and regional advocacy and awareness raising on the effects of landmines, cluster bombs and the rights of survivors. 

Job profile (to be confirmed):

  • Assist with host’s victim assistance survey by interviewing survivors and compiling data
  • Media engagement, including the preparation of action alerts and letters
  • Assist with 2012 research for the Landmine Monitor and Cluster Munition Report
  • Draft written reports for donors, partners and stakeholders
  • Coordinate updates to a database of survivor services within Cambodia
  • Support and create programs for women with disabilities
  • Coordinate and organize displays on Cambodia and the national campaign as required

Desired qualifications:

  • Excellent English writing and communication skills
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Post-secondary degree in development studies or a related field
  • Volunteer or study-related experience in the areas of social justice or mine action

Location: Medillin, Colombia

Mine Action Program Support Officer, Campaña Colombiana contra Minas (Colombian Campaign Against Landmines, CCCM)

This is one of two positions offered concurrently with this partner. The YPs will support the campaigning and advocacy work of CCCM by expanding and implementing youth volunteer programs in Medellin and Bogota.  This project will support CCCM’s work to reduce the social and economic impact of landmines through mine risk education and survivors’ rights programs as well as monitoring of the Ottawa Treaty banning landmines.

Job profile:

  • Expanding the range of activities undertaken by youth in Medellin with regards to mine action
  • Organizing and facilitating youth workshops focused on skills building, networking and joint actions
  • Developing a strategic plan for youth involvement in the campaign over the next 3 years
  • Communicating and promoting  Colombian youth involvement and activities internationally through the use of Web 2.0 strategies and regular submissions to International Campaign to Ban Landmines newsletters
  • Promoting the program to other departments within Colombia through regular communications and sharing resources with other department representatives to encourage youth involvement
  • Providing support to local and national campaign staff

Desired qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish is required for this placement
  • Experience in working with volunteers
  • Experience in  coordinating events
  • Experience with creating public education materials and training programs
  • High level of comfort with Web 2.0 strategies

Location: Kampala, Uganda

Mine Action Program Support Officer, Uganda Landmine Survivors Association

The Uganda Landmine Survivors Association (ULSA) is headed by Margaret Arach Orech, a leading international advocate for the support and rehabilitation of landmine survivors. Her work primarily includes domestic and regional initiatives aimed at empowering landmine survivors. Margaret is also one of six Ambassadors to the ICBL, a Commissioner to the Interfaith Action for Peace in Africa (IFAPA) coalition, a board member of Uganda's National Council for Disability (NCD) and a partner to the Uganda Mine Action Center. Within these roles, Margaret works to highlight the plight of landmine survivors as well as advocate for their needs and rights within the international community. The YP will work primarily supporting communications initiatives of ULSA’s nascent landmine survivor cooperative program, the aim of which is to provide sustainable, independent livelihoods for landmine survivors and their families and ensuring the voices of survivors at local, federal and international levels.

Job profile:

  • Drafting and coordination of ULSA annual report
  • Assist ULSA in creating a strategic plan
  • Creating new content and updating ULSA website and a virtual ULSA outreach platform using other social media
  • Training other staff and creating a how-to manual for how to update website, social networking sites and process online donations
  • Supporting the Executive Director in monitoring and evaluation field missions
  • Recruitment and training of local volunteers to support the work of ULSA to do local outreach in schools and communities
  • Represent ULSA at meetings with stakeholders and the community
  • Draft funding proposals and manage donor reporting

Mine Action Support Officer, Ban Landmines Nepal (2 positions)

There are two positions offered concurrently with this partner.  The YP will work on Ban Landmines Nepal’s landmine and cluster munitions campaigns, which includes research, advocacy for effective implementation of the Ottawa Treaty banning landmines and generating support for the Cluster Munition Convention. Ban Landmines Nepal also works on a variety of issues to promote peace and security in the country following years of conflict including: small arms and light weapons, youth peacebuilding, women’s issues and education.

Job profile:

  • Coordinate and expand current youth volunteer program including mobilization, skills training, community activities
  • Manage and promote the BLN Resource Centre as a focal point in the community
  • Coordinate and implement awareness events for the public
  • Draft reports and funding proposals as required for the youth program and resource center
  • Represent BLN at relevant events and conferences 
  • Manage and draft reports for BLN’s projects on education, small arms, light weapons and peacebuilding etc as needed.

Mine Action Program Support Officer, Project RENEW

Project RENEW primarily works in assistance to landmine survivors and other people with disabilities with the aim of socio-economic self sufficiency.  YP at Project RENEW has primary responsibility for supporting MVA Program Manager to plan, coordinate, manage, implement and supervise the activities of Mine and Cluster Victim Assistance Program, a non-profit program within Project RENEW’s components.

Under the assignment of MVA Program Manager, YP at Project RENEW is responsible for collecting and utilizing information relevant to MVA’s activities; coordinating with local partners, beneficiaries and institutional partners and supervising the implementation of planned activities as well as measuring outcomes and results.

Job profile:

  • Collecting, organizing, managing and utilizing all information relevant to MVA activities and opportunities.
  • Working with MVA Program Manager in developing project plans and goals, and to evaluate results.
  • Drafting any agreements or other project documents requested by MVA Program/ Project RENEW, government authorities or other relevant agencies, including transmittal documents for approvals if required.
  • Working with staff to set up an action plan and implementation schedule, detailed budget, monitoring plan, evaluation schedule and measurements, and supervise activities to be implemented.
  • Preparing periodical reports (monthly, quarterly, yearly) and unscheduled reports when requested.
  • Organizing trainings and/or workshops.
  • Preparing presentations, articles, and other communications for varied audiences including professionals, the general public and media at the local, national, and international levels.
  • Working closely with other Project RENEW staff to coordinate MVA activities with other project activities and related community-development programs.
  • Carrying out additional tasks when requested by the Project Coordinator or MVA Program Manager.
  • Being the liaison between Project RENEW and Mine Actions Canada, Canadian International Development Agency and CIDA’s mine actions projects all over the world. 

Desired qualifications:

  • Having experience or a certificate in social or agriculture development and planning.
  • Having knowledge on medical especially on trauma care and/or rehabilitation.
  • Good computer skills and good at PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Have training or skills on taking photos and filming.
  • Good communication, synthesis, analysis and evaluation skills
  • Ability to set up methods and procedures for training, management, and supervision
  • Ability to work in a team or independently
  • Experience in another mine actions programs would be an advantage.

Mine Action Program Support Officer, Zambian Campaign to Ban Landmines (ZCBL)

ZCBL is an alliance of like-minded civil society organizations that support a ban on landmines and cluster bombs which includes public health organizations, labor unions, faith-based organizations, the media and social science researchers.  The YP will be tasked with supporting the formalization of this alliance and the more efficient coordination of its activities and actions.  ZCBL is also on of the lead campaigns in Africa responsible for working on the universalization of the Cluster Munition Convention and the YP will also be tasked to support these efforts.

Job profile: 

  • Work as the sole NGO staff in the inter-agency/inter-government coalition on small arms, landmines and cluster bombs
  • Help set up and establish the joint office including setting up operating systems and procedures
  • Implement and monitor progress on the coalition’s strategic plan objectives on landmines, cluster bombs and small arms
  • Mobilize, coordinate and animate the coalition members and larger community in service of the strategic plan
  • Act as lead point of contact and generate media on in Zambia and Africa regarding the Ottawa  and Cluster Munition Conventions
  • Providing logistics and coordination support for ZCBL’s advocacy work and special events in Zambia and the region
  • Produce educational materials to support ZCBL’s and the coalition’s  advocacy work
  • Research and create fact sheets and a database on SADC member States on their positions and commitments to the two treaties and small arms

Desired qualifications:
