This week is back to school for many youth across Canada, so Mines Action Canada is introducing a new classroom resource on disarmament!
The "Dangerous Similarities" activity aims to highlight the dangers explosive remnants, such as landmines and cluster munitions, pose to children because of their similar appearance to toys. This new activity is on our classroom resources page, and you can also access it by clicking here. The activity overview provides teachers with a background on the issue of landmines and cluster munitions, and clearly explains how to carry out the activity with your classroom.
This is a great way for children and youth to learn about the issue, and understand why it is so important that we advocate for land to be cleared of these explosives. Teaching young minds and involving youth is a great way to spread the message of disarmament and promote peace.
"Dangerous Similarities" was created by one of our dedicated volunteers, Winston Stairs, who has experience volunteering in schools.
